Hi, I have been having some trouble with my desktops ethernet connection. Sometimes when playing it just jumps off and connects again after some time. I ran a speed test where I only got 8mps download and I pay for 120mps.

I then took my laptop and connected it to the ethernet cable and I got 70mps.

My motherboard is fairly new it's an Asus Z97 something (I bought it in spring 2016) and it hasn't had any problems until now.

Could it be because of dust in the ethernet input? I think I have the latest driver but I haven't updated it since I bought the card.

Sounds like modem/router issues, I've never heard of a motherboard's NIC causing what you describe. Are you using a router and modem or just modem?

Have you checked with other devices plugged straight into the modem your ISP gives you? We need a bit more info before we can troubleshoot.

We only have a modem.

The only other thing that is connected by cable is another desktop. And when I use the same cable I use for my desktop and plug it into my laptop I get better download and upload.

I'll assume you have reset the power and everything on the modem, and since the same connection does better with a different computer, it might be device specific.

To be sure, try removing the current driver for the network adapter and reinstalling it completely. Grab the download from Asus support for the ethernet driver: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/support/

Then go and uninstall the driver and reinstall. (http://www.pcworld.com/article/246041/how_to_uninstall_drivers_in_windows.html)
