Laptop hard drive help!

So my friend tried to put a 1tb WD ssd in his laptop (1 year old Asus X555L). It had a 1tb 2.5" hdd in it before. He attempted to do so. First time through there was an issur with booting, and not finding the right boot file. He formatted the drive and tried to reinstall windows, now the laptop will not recognize any storage drive period. Tried old one, new one, and a spare one I had after he shipped me his laptop. 

 

Any ideas?

Can you take a picture of what the laptop says when it boots or type the error message?

Just says press any key to boot from media device. In bios there are no storage drives available.

Are the SATA ports connected to the motherboard?

This laptop has a pcb board that the drive plugs into, then between 2 screws that hold down that pcb there is a solid set of pins.
