H110 cooling 4770k

Go to solution Solved by Ghost,

Sounds like you just lost out on the "silicon lottery".

Is anyone cooling their 4770k with this? Maybe i didn't get a good chip, but I can only push 4.2GHz on 1.18 volts with temps maxing a little over 80c stressed.

I've seen people get up to 4.6 at least or even 4.8 with those temps.

Is it just my chip not being that good at overclocking? Or is the h110 not up for the task?

H110 should be able to cope with it alright. Have you looked around the net for others with similar rigs and seen their temps etc.?

it is not the GHz that makes the heat, it is the voltage. and if you are using adaptive

mode for voltage in your overclock, yes you will be using excessive voltage while

benchmarking/stress your rig. the H110 is a good choice but any AIO isn't going to

knock 20°-30° delta from the temperature output. were you temps on a slow fan or

high fan speeds? stock fans?

not using adaptive. adaptive isn't recommended for synthetic stress tests

im using manual for voltages, and 1.180 is the lowest it will go at 4.2GHz, and still pushes the high temps. I guess i didnt win the lottery :(

high fan speeds btw

yes, ive seent 4.6 and 4.8 with reasonable temps than mine

edit: typo

to be honest is the difference between 4.2 and 4.6 even that large to be worried about it

My i7 4770K does 4.6GHz stable on water, but if I go just slightly over it... bad luck. But I guess I am doing alright with 4.6....

But a friend of mine uses this CPU as well and he gets 4.3 with watercooling. This is really just depending on the chip.
