Neuroscience / Image Analysis Suggestions

Hey everyone, I'm helping my fiancee spec a new rig for her to use at her lab (they currently are only running iMacs; ???).

 

I've got most of it covered, but I'm still unsure if we should lean more on the CPU or GPU/Cuda muscle. I'm not familiar enough with the packages/processes she is using to make even an educated guess. I'm hoping some of you are.

 

She is using: iPython / Jupyter (w/Thunder) / NumPy / Zen (by Zeiss) / and of course MatLab.

 

Most of all her processes involve Image Analysis. She gets results from microscopes, and needs to crunch on them. That's about the only way she could describe it.

 

So, with that little bit of information, would you suggest going with a beefcake CPU, or reigning that in and throwing the budget at the GPU?

Good choices.

 

I have no experience with those programs OP. But this build seems to cover most of the bases on a budget.

Matlab is a program i used extensively, when i was studying engineering.
