Hey everyone!

I ran into a problem when connecting my two monitors over different GPUs in my build. I need to do this because my USB booted linux based system does not work/recognize my dedicated GPU. So I need to switch the DVI cable everytime I want to start my normal windows based machine or switch to the linux one.

Setup: I have two samsung monitors with DVI, HDMI and Displayports. I have one monitor connected with the hdmi and one with DVI for windows mode. I switch the dvi from the dedicated one to the integrated one when I want to use linux and leave the other monitor black. I also have to switch every time in the BIOS from use of IGP to DGP manually after switching the cables. It supports multimonitor setup with the use of the integrated GPU.

Dedicated: GTX 1060

Motherboard: MSI Gaming 3

CPU: i5 4690 (i think)

The goal is now to have a hardware or software setup that allows me to have minimal effort when switching to the linux system.

Thank you for the help. I didnt find anything usefull because noone needs two monitor from different gpus if the one good one already does it. I just need it for the resolution of my linux. Which is Tails and Ubuntu btw. so a solution within linux doesnt help me. :)

Why not just fix the Linux build?   Hard to believe that a correctly configured LInux build wont recognise an integrated GPU on a processor that runs it.

While it is an option for the Ubuntu, I dont really feel comfortable to play around with the Tails version. They delete themselves after use and the idea is to not manually change too much in them. However if there is an easy solution that an amateur can do Im willing to listen of course :) As I just got started I thought its easier to just let the linux run over the integrated GPU which solves the problem completly. Its just a hassle to switch.

To do something like this you're looking at a two port KVM switch. You plug the KVM switch into your dedicated GPU and into your integrated GPU then plug the video out into your monitor.

Flicking a switch converts your display from Input 1 to Input 2

idk

Something like a Delock 2Port DVI-Switchbox, Duallink 24+5 would do? That means I would need two very short DVI-cables and one medium range DVI cable. Two from each GPU and one from the switch to the monitor. This solution would automatically choose (when i press) which GPU is used, while both GPUs are in use on my motherboard? Also does it effect my HDMI cable that is plugged into my dedicated GPU? Would it cause problems or pick the dedicated one? Thanks so far!

No, since it would run externally. And yes, that would work.

idk
