*I got 2 desktops and 3 laptops with valid windows OS in every one of them.
I am getting a new computer for my mom and I came across this article:
https://www.howtogeek.com/244678/you-dont-need-a-product-key-to-install-and-use-windows-10/
As you can see I do support Microsoft, but after buying all these OS, I feel like it would be ok to use a 'free' one with some limitations in this new build.
Can any confirm that it's legal? Also, if it actually works?
Thanks!

Since Windows 8, a Windows installation does not expire even when it is not activated for a long period of time. In Windows 10, the only major limitation is the inability to change customization settings. Also, there is an occasional watermark that appears in the bottom right corner after the computer is up for a long period of time, but it is barely visible. It is legal.

The EULA states to use the software you must have a license. There are no exceptions. Using copyrighted software without permission is never legal. No license no permission.

Do you think Microsoft cares about your feelings?

I am confused. If they let people freely download WIN10 ISO from their site, and they let you install WIN10 without a key, and they don't stop you from using a non activate WIN10 and the only thing they do is "nag" you with suggestions to activate it - I don't see how is that illegal?

It's not like I would just download a pirate ISO and use it..

I thought I explained it as easily as I can. It is copyrighted. To use it you need permission. To get permission you buy a license.

Use without license = broke copyright law =  not legal

Yes they distribute the iso. Yes you can use it without a key. This does not make it shareware, freeware, public domain, or libre software. Why does MS do this? because it spreads their monopoly.

I cannot break it down any simpler than that.

If you want a free operating system look for one available with a license such as GPL, BSD, or Apache.

Your wrong, when it is not activated it is legal, reason being is you can't download Windows 10 Updates. If it was illegal then that means you used a KMS activator.
