So I recently set up a new build specs as follows:

i7 7700k

Asus GTX 1080

32GB Corsair Dominator RAM

Gigabyte Auros Z270X Gaming 7

X52 Kraken AIO

Corsair RM650x PSU

Now everything appeared to be working fine until I tried to restart the computer. I hit restart, the monitor went dark, my keyboard and mouse lighting turned off, everything on my actual computer remained on. All the lights on, the fans still spinning, so despite windows apparently shutting down the computer was still running. The same happens if I try and shut down my computer through windows, everything except the actual computer powers off. Only thing that works is holding down the power button or hitting the switch on the PSU.

I have spent literally hours researching solutions. I've got all the latest drivers, the latest BIOS, Ive gone through power settings, Im at a total loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

UPDATE: So now after waiting about 5 minutes on the shutdown or restart screen I will eventually get a blue screen of death error:

Stop code: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

I did some research and found most people suggesting to make sure every device driver is up to date and I have gone through literally everything in device manager and Im convinced everything has up to date drivers, so no further progress made unfortunately. Still maybe someone smarter than me can make something of it all.

Hi!

This might be slightly related to "gone through literally everything", but give this a try:

Press the windows key  and type "sigverif" then press enter.

This should open the Windows File Signature Verification Utility which will scan for files without a digital signature.

If this does not work, try to disable APM under your BIOS if that is enabled, or else try to flash your BIOS to make sure it's the newest version (It usually never is!)

Since this is probably related to your RAM and if the previous steps did not work, i'd recommend running Memtest86 to see if your RAM is faulty.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

I did 'sigverif' and Memtest86 and it all came back with no errors.

I couldn't find any setting labelled APM in my boards BIOS, I dont know if I missed it or not.

Still stumped as to what the issue could be :/

UPDATE: So I just noticed I no longer get a BSOD DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE when I shutdown or restart anymore I am back to my previous issue of the monitor and KB/M going to sleep but the actual PC still remaining on, no idea if that makes any difference whatsoever.

Alright, let's try flashing your BIOS to see if that makes a difference, but first let's see what version you currently have.

Again go under Windows + R and type " msinfo32"

Under System Information you should see a BIOS Version/Date, if that version is not F4 or the date is not from 2017, we need to flash your BIOS.

IF I found the correct one from your post This should be your motherboard.

It should link directly to the support section, where you click on BIOS and download the latest version (F4) from 2017, then flash your BIOS.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already done that, the BIOS is the latest version.

Thinking its a motherboard problem? Because I certainly do. I've tried with 2 separate RAM kits that both passed MemTest. I've tried with 2 different graphics cards (not a likely source of the problem but I had to check). I don't think it could be anything in windows settings given that this never happened on my previous build and I have been through everything and I have tried both old and new BIOS versions. Not to mention I do have horrendous luck with motherboards.

Reckon it might be worth just getting a RMA on the board? Im at a loss.

Sadly, this sounds like the right option now, if you have tested with seperate RAM and even graphics card, RMA the motherboard and hope that a new one solves the problem.
