So basically, bought a new PC, chucked it all together but was waiting for the SSD and just installed windows on the HDD for the days spent waiting.

(This is the setup: z270h asus strix, 960evo 250gb m.2, 850evo 500gb SSD, 3tb WD HDD, i5 6600k, asus strix 1070, hyperx 32gb ram)

instal went fine on HDD and I used the computer for a few days doing basic gaming and what not. M.2 arrived, super pumped I installed it in the computer, and cleaned the HDD using disk part and then removed the HDD from the pc for the time being. Went to install windows 10 using the same USB media tool. Went fine, until it restarted, then it came up with error (windows was unable to complete installation, in order to complete restart the installation) once it got the asus screen.

I cleaned the disc and converted back to gpt using disk part, then tried again. Same thing. I then waited for the other SSD to arrive. Did the same steps with the new SSD and have the exact same problem. ive tried so many random setting combos in the BIOS but still nothing. I tried the media on my laptop to check it, worked fine, was able to do a clean install. PLEASE HELP ITS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!

Because you installed windows on a HDD first I have a feeling that the sata controller settings in your bios might be set to IDE or legacy. Try changing it to AHCI or NVME if the option is available. Then try installing the OS again to see if it works.

Hope this helps :)

SATA controller is enabled and mode selection is AHCI, is this to what you are referring?

This is what the update for the bios says, should I update?

STRIX Z270H GAMING BIOS 0801
1.Improved PS2 devices/VGA card compatibility
2.Modified OA key function in legacy OS.
3.Improved System Performance.
4.Fixed overclocking profile naming issue.
5.Modified Thermal Control function

I have tried both, same error on each. is there one I should try in particular?

not really, I'm thinking its a problem with windows as it installed then fails on reboot.

do you have secure boot enabled?
