You're saying that just go for the fastest and cheapest RAM. I thought I would have to go for the good brands because of how often I hear of fried RAM.

There aren't really any good or bad brands in RAM. Very few of the brands actually have much to do with the creation of the RAM, they mostly put a heatspreader and stickers on it. The process of manufacturing RAM has matured to the point where it's basically impossible to get a bad kit of RAM as long as it's not some completely unknown stuff. DOA RAM is still possible, but a lot of that is just luck rather than anything to do with the brand. 

Apacer has been in the DRAM game for two decades now and it's their primary business focus. They may not be one of the most well known brands in the West, but they're pretty reliable from what I know.
