Why would you say that?

There are some games, like Far Cry 4, that refuse two launch on two threads. I'd say your more likely to find that as an issue than your CPU bottlenecking a 970.

Would there be significant bottlenecking in other games such as  Overwatch and H1Z1? If it is, would it be worth it to downgrade to a r9 390x 4GB?

System setup at the time was

G3258 @4.2ghz

EVGA 970 SC

16gbs DDR3 @ 2133mhz

SSD

I ran this setup for 6 months or so. Worked great @ 1080p with games like LoL, Heroes of the Storm, CSGO, 7 days to die, GTAV, Spin Tires, Osiris, Sims 4, SimCIty. Each game took some tweaking to achieve the 60-120fps goal but it did work.

Now that CPU has a 680 classified tied to it.

Ignore the people that tell you to upgrade. There is no need unless you're already considering it.

I7-7700k@5.1ghz + 1080ti @ 2050mhz + 32gbs Ram + 2TB SSD = CSGO

i7-6700k@4.9ghz + 980ti @ 1501mhz + 16gbs Ram + 1 TB SSD = Backup

i7-3770k@4.8ghz + 680 4gb + 32gbs Ram + 500gb SSD = Retired/Office work

I'm not too familiar with those two games so I don't know if they're more CPU intensive or not, but I know Overwatch isn't hard to run so even if the g3258 bottlenecks you should still get 1080p 60fps. H1Z1 might run a little lower but you should be fine for the most part. And I don't think you should ever downgrade your GPU, I don't think it should have any benefits to downgrade but I'm not completely sure.

I swapped the EVGA 970 for a EVGA 680 classified for reasons. The 970 got moved over to the FX8350 for reasons.

Oh you don't have the 970 yet. Honestly a 970 should be fine, afterall in some games I think a g3258 would be fine so you'd be getting some more performance, so unless it's quite a bit more I'd get a 970. Outta curiousity, why aren't you getting a newer card like a 1050 ti or rx 470? Are they more expensive where you live?

Hello everyone once again,

Would my current Intel Pentium G3258 overclocked at 4.2 GHz bottleneck a MSI GTX 970 Gaming GPU?

yes that does bottleneck it, i would suggest buying an i5 4670k or 4690k, that wont bottleneck a gtx 1070

I have to many computers. They all have a purpose but ya can't say to much on this website or you get lynched. There is little understanding on this forum. Everyone says "I would just upgrade to so and so, cause money grows on trees!!!!" Or "why would you do that, I would have done this xxxxx because XXXXX reasons!"

Typical though. Everyone has an opinion but few people have the experience.

Well my choices for my GPU exchange is either a r9 380x or a GTX 970

It might make a bit of a difference but you'd have to exchange the RAM too; going to Skylake would just be too much of a hassle. If you wanted to upgrade your CPU I'd just upgrade it to another Haswell CPU like the i3-4160 or i5-4460.
