Last night I finished building a new PC and installed Windows on an SSD.  Today I went about installing all drivers and programs needed, but have run into a confusing issue.  Note that this issue has occurred BEFORE installing programs and updating drivers, as well as AFTER updating everything to the latest version.  I've even tried formatting the SSD and installing a clean Windows with no resolution.  The problem I'm having is that the system keeps freezing.  I noticed it freeze when I insert/remove an ethernet cable or any peripherals (USB), insert a CD into the drive, and update the ASUS motherboard drivers.  Other times it just randomly froze when I was installing various programs.  My initial thought was that this was a problem with Windows, but it has also frozen immediately after power up when the ASUS logo shows before Windows loads.  I removed the motherboard battery and replaced it to try to reset any potentially odd settings, and it worked without issue for a short while, but just now froze up again.  Could this be a faulty motherboard in need of replacement?  I'm pretty sure there is more than enough power so I doubt its a power wattage issue, but it's a possibility I suppose.  Any thoughts?  I appreciate any help with this.

Try taking as many Motherboard connected component out as possible ... extra disk, graphics card, leave just one memory stick, etc, - enough to boot into windows.     Then let it run for a while and see if issue still exists.   if it does swap to a different memory stick in a different slot and try again.   If still an issue swap to a different boot device (boot from the HDD instead of SDD for example).   ie: trying to isolate the cause ...

There is a checklist thats really good somewhere ... will see if i can find it.

I dont want to cause you to chase a rabbit down a burrow, but i've recently had a similar symptom with a new build... and two (yes two) SAMSUNG 850 EVO 250GB in a row were faulty.   No sign that is your problem, just thought i'd mention it.

I'm still finding new troubleshooting things online that I'm trying 1 by 1.  I'll install Windows on the HDD and see if that fixes my problem.  If you can find that checklist for me I would appreciate it greatly.

I appreciate you following up with this.  I was able to diagnose the issue correctly.  If only by means of the process of elimination.  I ordered a replacement motherboard and installed it last night with no issues so far.  Thank you again for your help.
