hello

i have a 1tb seagate hard drive from my laptop that i am now using as an external drive.

it IS ABLE to be detected and is fully functional when i plug it into my super old sony vaio (works on all usb ports both 3.0 and 2.0) or super old dell optiplex.

however it IS NOT being detected by a 2015 macbook pro or dell xps 15 9550.

any helps appreciated.

thanks

my hard drive connects to my computers via usb a male to male.

in terms of variables, x and y, when plug x is connected to the hdd and plug y is connected to the computer, it reads on my sony vaio and not the xps 15.

on the other hand, when i reverse it so that plug y is connected to the hdd and plug x is connected to the computer, it reads on my xps 15 and not the sony vaio.

in situation 2, where plug y is connected to the hdd and plug x is connected to the computer, it freezes my sony vaio but not the xps 15.......

so weird. maybe faulty cable but i will be trying it this weekend when i can get my hands on another cable
