Hi everyone,

I have a little issue, I have an Asus X99-S motherboard and it has the mounting holes blocked. I am trying to mount a Coolermaster Siedon 120M, I know it does not require a backplate due to the blocked holes and the threaded holes next to the socket but do I need the standoffs (the chunky metal things that normally screw into the backplate)?? Please help I am very confused!

Thanks in advance!

Shane.

Yes you need standoffs. Seidon should come with special standoffs for lga 2011 socket according to the manual

They are label with the letter "J".

We ordered this accessories kit a while ago and it has nothing like the standoffs mentioned in the manual:/

Those 4 standoffs in the bottom right look like the standoffs you need.

Yes, those look correct to me. If you have 2011 MB at hand you can easily try it and see if the thread on them matches the one on the motherboard,

They go into the motherboard perfectly but I have a strange feeling these are for a Corsair H100 GTX and won't fit the cooler:/

No they are for the Seidon. Corsairs H100 GTX uses 2011 standoffs that have threads on both sides.

Just seems a bit weird, I have a bracket for the Siedon 120M here but it is an AMD one just to test the hole size on the standoffs and the screw seems maybe a mm too big, until my brother is home I can't test the Intel brackets actually on the cooler. Just looking inside his desktop the screws seem the same size that is why I'm a little concerned:/

Is the seidon currently in use in his PC?

Anyway you need to use screws that came with the cooler, not some others you have lying around.

These screws are for the cooler just on the AMD bracket the Intel bracket is currently in his PC so I can't test that until he is home in a bit. I can't see them using 2 different screw sizes for AMD and Intel?

Well, they should fit. If they don't then standoffs are fore some third cooler.

My test computer worked fine in the end, and the temps were great even under 100% load, never exceeded 55c. Didn't think this low end cooler would do so well against a 5930K!
