Computer wont shut down

Help. My comuter wont turn off. My monitors go black and the computer just sits there forever. Got any ideas? Im running windows 10 pro

Does the system not do anything at that point? If so, it's most likely safe to power off with the power button

Check task scheduler and see if there's anything in there triggered for shutdown.

 

If that still is a thing in Win 10.

Might sound silly, but are you certain the "Power Button" youre using is actually powering it down and not putting it to sleep? Check your power settings cuz both, the actual physical button and start menu power button can be configured to put it to sleep and not actually powering it down.

i use classic shell and choose shut down. then it says shutting down but  doesn't

I had this problem in windows 7, had something to do with sleep. whenever the screen went off its like it forgot what was it was doing. Reinstalling windows was the only thing i found to work. sorry  

If Restart works your best bet would be just hit that and wait til your cmos comes up then hit the power button to force a shutdown while out of windows
