What exactly is this for?

 is that better?

Haha I meant of the socket - don't worry about it mate. It does look like it according to the above video. Quick test: take out your WiFi card (small square chip with green PCB and white sticker {remember the location of your cables, or use these pics for reference}) and see if it fits in the other socket. If yes - you can more than likely install an SSD as cache.

As I said earlier though, cloning to a full-sized SSD might be easier and will probably be cheaper/GB.

This probably sounds extremly stupid but i have no clue when it comes to laptops

what exactly is that for? im not talking about the HDD but the little room besides it which is clearly shown as the only thing on one of the pictures just wanted to get the bigger picture so you could see where its located. Also you can see on the picture what laptop it is.

mPCIe, compatible with mSATA. WiFi/3G, TV tuners, all sorts of stuff (yes SSDs too). It usually depends on the laptop you have as to what you can put in there ie. TV tuner won't work because there's nowhere to connect the coaxial. Can't see why not to an mSATA SSD but?

its a laptop i only use for school but it takes ages to boot up which can be annoying in the beginning of the class and just in general is rather slow so im thinking if putting an msata ssd in there would help? or would it just be a waste? also im not sure where to check if it supports it

EDIT: after some research i found out that it is NOT an msata slot

It would be, just not on this particular mainboard. The chassis are all designed the same, then the mainboards are put in as either barebones or full-featured. That open slot is just in case it was the higher end model with an mPCIe card in there.

Or I could be totally wrong..

And yes, I looked at it completely wrong too, the first pic looked like it had the connectors there but the second one shows it better haha

It would have been an mSATA slot, just in this case your motherboard doesn't support it unfortunately.

In theory you could have installed an SSD as cache, but you also have the option of cloning your current drive over to an appropriately sized 2.5" SSD? Major performance boost there.

EDIT: CHRIST I'M TIRED. I GIVE UP ON TRYING TO DECIDE. But it actually does look like it fits................................. probably........

That's what I thought too, then I decided against it.... Perhaps the OP can provide us with some better angles?

THAT IS A MSATA.

That can fit a msata drive. Either a pcie wireless card or a ssd depending on what you need. But that IS a msata slot.
