GPU not working after Windows Update?

Had a problem start a couple days ago, been troubleshooting for a few hours, and haven't come any closer to a solution.

Shut down computer as normal every night, noticed it started installing updates. Ok, no problem. Next morning, turn on computer, it says it is installing updates. I leave for work, come back later and it is turned off. Boot it up, seems to be booting as normal, but after displaying windows logo on primary screen, all screens go black, and the windows loading circle appears on my 5th screen. a bit odd, I leave it for a hours, hoping it will resolve the issue. Come back after supper, and the loading circle is still going around. I attempted to see if there was any response from any input, ctrl+alt+delete, esc, etc, no response. I pressed/held the power button for 10s to shut it down, waited a minute, then restarted. Same result-loading circle on 5th screen. Not responding to any inputs. I reboot, pressed shift+f8 to go into windows repair tools. No restore points found. I restarted into safe mode, looked around, all drivers seemed to be normal, nothing out of place. Ran chkdsk for fun. No problems. Restarted computer, same result. Started unplugging peripherals and rebooting to see if it was any peripherals were causing the problem. Discovered shortly that the computer booted fine if there was nothing plugged into GPU. So, ran off iGPU, rebooted, logged into windows, then plugged in displays to GPU. As soon as a display was plugged in, screen running off iGPU froze. Unplugged from GPU, and it resumed. Un-installed GPU drivers and reinstalled. Problem continued. Un-installed windows updates, rebooted, problem continued. Re-installed windows updates, problem continued. Currently at a loss of what to do, anyone had any problems like this? Next step will be to take it apart and re-seat the GPU and try again, failing that I will have to find another GPU to swap in to test. Planning on taking it apart sometime tomorrow likely, if anyone has any ideas other than that, please let me know.

 

tl;dr

Only iGPU displays working after windows update, anything plugged into GPU will cause screen to freeze. Basic troubleshooting steps exhausted

 

If there is anything I didn't explain well enough, or need to expand upon, please let me know

Have you tried reinstalling or updating your graphics drivers?

I must admit I skimmed and missed a bit. Are you using the same cable for the graphics card and iGPU?

no-i have 5 displays-normally, 3 are plugged into gpu, 2 into mobo. as soon as I unplug everything from the gpu, the mobo displays will work

Try only using one display at a time. Plug it into both outputs and see what happens

I have. Nothing works when plugged into gpu

Under display in windows settings, are all 5 displays there?

not at the moment, because only 2 are plugged in. I cant tell if it detects more when i plug them into the gpu because it freezes

Sorry that I'm unable to help but I've never seen an issue like this. Like you said you would, reseat the card or try a different card if you can find one. Were all the displays working with windows in safe mode? If they were then this is likely a windows/driver issue, but beyond that I'm unsure.

nope, only primary display was, which is kinda weird, since primary is run off gpu

Almost definitely not the fault of the GPU then.
