Hello everyone.

So I decided that its time to upgrade my old FX8350 for a new CPU. I've read alot of topics and forums where people were discusing which CPUs are better for general gaming and people were saying that an I5 would be a perfect choice.

Since I haven't been following Intel CPUs. I need an advice which CPU would be the best for general 1080p (2560^1080 in my case) gaming(Mainly BF1). I need CPU and mobo.

Also I'm not planning to overclock a new CPU.

My current system

CPU - FX8350 5.0Ghz

Mobo - Asus Sabertooth 990FX Rev 2.0

GPU - Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ 8GB

RAM - HypreX 16GB

PSU - EVGA 750W.

Any advice is welcome.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

Xeon E3-1230 v3 and any H/Z97 motherboard, as it'd save you having to buy DDR4, and there isn't much performance difference.

Seems like a i5 6500 or a i5 7500 would do it, but be careful when buying a i5 7500 and a 6th gen board, make sure they come with the new BIOS, Or it wont work...

Also on a side note, Ryzen is right around the corner, so might be worth waiting for that

What's your budget. I would go with an 7700K or 7600K.

If you don't feel like your gaming is suffering, slapping a beefy cooler on the CPU and overclocking the heck out of it will yield very desirable results.
