Noob on the horizon

I am slaving myself to build a something I could call a powerful computer and I just finish building it but with the scrap parts I have from my last project I choose to make a server out of it what I ask of you is to recommend me some good mid level switch and/or router because I am not just connecting my server and main rig but also PS3, linux box and laptop

Remember you will need 1Gb network cards for all of your devices to actually take advantage of the increased bandwidth.

Games do not generate high load on the network, in short YES.

You could have a bunch of those hooked together before you even came close to seeing some latency issues, but then it just becomes impractical price wise and you might as well buy something with more ports.

How many players would you typically see at a LAN?

average would be no more than 10
