6500 vs 7500

Hello All!

First post here but i have been watching LTT for a while! I am going to be putting together my first computer and there is a problem... Should I go with the i5-6500 or the i5-7500? I'm looking into building here within the month and I don't really care about overclocking. So the big question... is it worth the extra money for the 7500? Also can you use a 6500 in a H270 MOBO?

you can use the 6500 with h270 and  but the performance increase from skylake to kabylake is minimal so just go with 6500 if its a lot cheaper  but if 7500 is the same price go for the 7500

If you do not want to wait then i5-6500 also why not RyZen if you wait?

@Nena360 Maybe... I guess since ill be waiting anyway. Might as well see what AMD has in store for CES. Also the little bit that i have seen it will still be a while for the RyZen processors to come out?

If the i5 7500 is like 10 dollars more expensive max then go for it otherwise wait for ZEN the i5 6500 is still basically the same CPU as the 7500 but I would still wait for zen

AMD have already done their CES keynote, no mention of Ryzen, only their Vega gpu's.

Probably be a few more months before Ryzen is released now.

Well if that's the case then I dont think ill want to wait.... i5-6500 here i come!

The 7500 and 6500 don't overclock anyway so don't worry about that.

The 7500 is 0.2 GHz faster, on the exact same architecture, this will translate to negligible performance gains across the board.

I would go with the 6500, unless the 7500 only costs a little bit more (like $20-40)

Assuming your doing nothing more intensive  than gaming/light Video editing the 6500 will so just fine. Depending on the price you may be better off with the higher boost clock of a 6600 than the 7500.

There's no telling when the Ryzen 4c will be out... and the 8 core Ryzen isn't even on the same level as the 6500...
