Mixing RAM sizes

I have 2x 4GB DDR4 sticks of Crucial Ballistix in my build, and I asked myself if I could throw in one single 8GB DDR4 stick that I have lying around here. It is from the same manufacturer and running with the same speed. I know that one shouldn't mix up RAM sizes, but what would be the consequences.

you might have some issues, but if you have 4 sticks and 4 slots, you should be just fine,

8gb | 16gb | 8gb | 16gb

Issues?  Little to none.  I've literally done this for more than a decade of building my own pc's.  Only in my most recent 2 builds have I perfectly matched my memory sticks.

Laws only govern the honest.

So it should just work fine?

The computer isn't going to 'get confused' by 2 different sizes of ram sticks.  It usually counts how much ram is installed upon POST.

I use mixmatched ram in my personal computer and it works just fine.

what i was trying to say is that sometimes there can be problems when mixing sizes channels and timings.

(i have mostly had problems with laptops)

But he should be just fine
