Big, Cheap, Quiet

Looking to build an x99 Work Station that will sit out of site, but in commonly used room.  Eventually it will have 5 liquid cooled cards in it but for starters it will have 3 air cooled.  Looks aren't that big a deal.  No glass panel needed.  Quiet, cool operation with room for radiators and a low price are the big concerns.

I have no brand loyalty, I'd consider anything if it meets the criteria.

Suggestions?

So uhm you have 5 liquid cooled cards, an x99 work station and you want low price?

How low is the price? How big are the cards?

5 liquid cooler "cards"? Do you mean GPUs? I'm not even aware of a GPU that will let you run it with 4 others.

Yeah I know that seems contradictory, there are some complications here that give me access to some things via discounts and gift cards, but other things have to be paid full price.

The cards will be FE gtx1080s.

You can't SLI more than 2 GTX 1080s together....

I'm not going to SLI them.

OK, I'm trying to get something figured out. What do you mean by "watercooling 5 cards"? Still stuck here cuz I don't know of a motherboard that would have all the PCI slots you need.

You can only fit 3 GPUs on that motherboard. 1080s are dual-slot cards. Doesn't matter if they're in SLI or not, you can't fit 5 GPUs on that boards. Even if you had three GPUs you'd be blocking the other PCIe slots.

 

That said, an E-ATX chassis would be a good fit, so something like a Define XL or maybe Phanteks Enthoo Pro would work.

Put a waterblock on them and remove the DVI connector and they fit in a single slot.

Ah, well that's a project?

 

It's OK, it's just not as good as the Define Mini which wasn't available when I bought my case. I've thought of replacing it a few times but haven't done so. Probably will if I ever upgrade platforms.
