I had to use my dvi-d port the first time I booted my msi z170 m5 so I would try that first.

got a dvi-vga adapter. worked perfectly. Cant believe it was so simple.

So I just finished my build, first one. hooked up everything, triple checked while i was doing it and constantly grounded myself using the power supply method. I plug everything up and it will not post, its on. my mobo error code is reading 00 but i cannot get a signal using a hdmi cable to hdmi on the monitor. Do I need a dvi cable? problem is this samsung monitor is vga and hdmi. Do i get a dvi-vga adapater and try it? i already tried one stick of ram, un plugging the computer and re connecting it.

Parts are:

i5-6600k

msi z170 mpower titanium

120 gb ssd boot drive

evga g2 650w

corsair dominator platinum 2x8gb single stick inserted at the moment

corsaire h100i vz cooler

there is no sounds, just the fans and the pump on the cooler.

Basically, do I need to use the dvi output for first time bootup?
