If you're dissatisfied with your performance and framerate in games, yes. If you are not, then don't bother and keep the 970 and upgrade to the 1170 or something when it comes out.

not very satisfied with it , 1170 still long way to go i think ?

Currently using gtx 970 , should i upgrade to 980ti / 1070 ? (BUDGET)

with 1080 144hz monitor only

game i play

-overwatch

-GTAV

-Mostly fps and open world  .. .

Not sure if you "should" upgrade, but if you really want to, either would work. But I would suggest the 1070 for the longer lifespan. Also, since that card is way overkill for 1080p gaming, you can use DSR to crank the resolution & still keep the frame rates.

144 hz is pretty much dead right now, IMO.

GPU's are bottlenecked by the CPU at that high of frame rates - and it has more to do with game engines than it does with true horsepower of CPU's.

Best bet is to get a g-sync monitor and play at any of the intervals leading up to 100, or 100, hz.
