That would be the ipv4 address? and how would the two go together as in the ip address and the port that it tells you? Like do you put the ip address first then a space and the port?

Put the ip and a colon and then the port, no spaces.

like "IP:port"

I just want to say that this post is behalf on one of my friends you'll know why if you read on. I have a wired pc with minecraft on it, and when it hosts a minecrafdt LAN my other wired pc can connect. However, with a wireless mac it cant find the LAN. All of the devices are on the same network too. The macs dont have ethernet ports and I have no adapters so what can I do? All of the devices firewalls are off and any IP blocking has been disabled. Additionally, if the mac hosts the world then both PC's can join but not the other way around. Sooo yeah. Thanks in advance!

what is that and how does it work?

i edited my post, for some reason i misread that they were all on the same network at first. Anyway, hamachi is a program that creates a private virtual network. You then create a network id/password and other people can connect to it. Once everyone has joined the same hamachi network then you just use the hamachi IP to connect.

So do you know what I could do to fix this?

1. click start, then control panel
2. click on Network and Internet
3. click on Network and Sharing Center
4. find your connection on the right hand side
5. click on this connection in blue next to 'connection:'
6. click on properties, the one with the shield thing
7. up the top, click on sharing
8. tick that box where it says to Allow other network users to connect.....
9. under 'Home networking connection: select 'Local Area Connection'
10. click ok

Found that, try it on the PC that is hosting the LAN.

I think you can maybe try just entering the local IP of the computer hosting the LAN for the server IP on the mac when the PC is hosting it as well.

I think you need to have more than one network available for the option to show up. But maybe that's not the problem then, it was just some instruction I found online.

Try to connect using direct connect on the mac. When you start the lan, note the port that it tells you. Then (on the mac) connect using the host's local ip (can be found by entering 'ipconfig' in the command prompt on the host machine and looking for ipv4 address) and the port that it tells you. ie: if the local ip is something like 192.168.10.15 and the port 1234, then put this in direct connect "192.168.10.15:1234"

That worked!!! Thanks dude you just saved my life.

no problem. glad it's all working now. It's a problem since version 1.6.4 I believe. Not sure why you can't see the local servers sometimes, but if you know they are for sure on the same network then usually all you have to do is manually enter the address.
