So basically i have an old apple monitor that has a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and my original plan was to use a bunch of adapters and connect it to my Xbox One, but unfortunately it didn't work because it doesn't support any of its resolutions (because Apple likes to be special). But then i managed to build my old PC back together in a drawer and connect it and use a wired Xbox remote to control the desktop and such and i have been using that for Netflix, which was my original intent. But recently i have been wanting to join all of my console peasant friends  and I am trying to figure out a way to change the resolution going to the monitor to enable use of the Xbox One. I was looking into capture cards and that could be and option, but i don't want to have to pay that much, I currently have an HDMI to USB adapter and i was wondering if with that i could use USB as an input for video and display it with a software. Any suggestions?

My Xbox 360 shows an available output of 1680x1050, so I imagine the One would as well.

Where does it show that, In the standard display resolution settings?

Yes. I was looking through the settings the other day for fun and there it was, 1680x1050. I didn't try it though, and I was using an HDMI television, not a monitor.

No the Xbox one only supports 1080 and 720

That's weird. My 360 shows the resolution. Maybe it is because of the adapters? What are they?

I am using a HDMI to VGA, and VGA to ADC (apples connector) and it flashes the code for unsupported resolution with any of the Ones resolutions.

The HDMI to VGA adapter could be causing an issue. They have been known to cause issues for me.
