Try gnuroot debian, which is a p-root/chroot running along android with debian jessie. Though its all command line, you would need to install your own desktop, setup own x-server and then start the desktop. ARM is a pretty amazing architecture imo, already has powerful arm based blade in a super computer so there should be some arm based packages to run on linux. Depends on what you want to do! So far I have octave and blender running, trying to get FOAM to work :P

If you root then you can use linux deploy and format an SD card to run linux, this way you can carry the linux distribution with you to whichever rooted device you have!

Otherwise the best bet is to use remote desktop for your tablet and just connect to a desktop running windows/linux and do you're work that way! If you're wanting to game then i believe nvidia has you covered with game stream!

Shield is based on tetra k1 - not x86.

Windows requires x86 chip to get the benefits you describe.

X86 requires way too much power for tablet.

Hence, why nvidia selected android becomes clearer for you

That style...

No, you can't.

Because the Nvidia Shield does not have a x86 processor, it has ARM.

If your device is rooted, you can run linux on android...

But it is not really worth it.

Windows RT anyone?

Windows RT was never made as a image to install Windows. Its not impossible. But no one has created a special image for android devices to install it.

I know :( I read today they made wine for android.
