GTX 770 high temp

Samarkand

Hi All,

Previously my GPU temp was 55°C when idle and it hang when gaming. So i reapply the thermal paste on the GPU.

After applied, the GPU temp was 45°C and when gaming it reached 98°C able to game without system been hang.

This temp reading was not the reading when it was bought at new. (35°C when idle, gaming 65°C).

Any advise to improve the GPU temp?

Thanks.

You should clean the dust and dirt off of the metal roster which is dissipating the heat. Dust will isolate all the warmth produced by the GPU and causes it to heat up. You also should clean all other dust in your case, so all other fans and maybe reapply thermal paste on the CPU too. If there is no cool air in the case, it will never be able to cool the components properly.

I hope this helps!

BTW: Remove any overclock just for now, because 98 C is ridiculously high

If you have a grill on the side panel put a fan on it to exhaust GPU heat that's what I have.

take it apart again, re apply the thermal paste. make sure the heatpads on the vrm and ram chips are on correctly, then ensure you tighten the screws when you're putting it back together. Also (Not sure if you did this) once you have applied the thermal paste and put the cooler on, don't then take the cooler back off to see the spread, doing this will cause air bubbles to get trapped between the chip and a cooler.
