Help! Can't decide what CPU to get

Go to solution Solved by Energycore,

What's your budget? You can do better than that for $850 if you want to game and create content.
There's no better CPU than that FX on AM3, so no go on that. Instead, get a price-performance optimized build.

my current computer is a laptop (so upgrading parts isnt an option) with an i7-2630qm and a nvidia geforce 540m 2gb and 16gb ram. ive had it for 5 years, and it is just recently begun having small freezeups and crashes, but other than that works perfectly, EXCEPT that I have begun making youtube videos, and it is slow AF while editing, (using nch videopad, i dunno if it would be less laggy with better software such as premiere for final cut) and it takes several hours to render a 20 minute video, something i need to do at least daily. this: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/8933m8 is someone elses computer that the person who built it is trying to sell to me for $500. basically, it seems to be only slightly better than mine, and im considering buying it and upgrading just the cpu, which is like to spend at most $200 if thats possible, and then use that computer for like 2 years because it will be that long before i can afford to start fresh and build my own pc. my problem is ive never built a pc before, and have no idea what my options would be for upgrading the cpu, aka what would be compatable, and what would actually be better for video editing, and have no idea where id find such info. a side note is i will also be do all my high end gaming on this same computer, and plan on getting the htc vive, which it is currently capable of, since they guy selling has one and has used it on this computer.

There's pretty much nothing higher aside from those chips who will remain unnamed unnumbered.

Best upgrade would be an SSD like the 850 PRO or MX300.

You can't replace that CPU with something better unfortunately, it's the best you can do for that platform (the higher-end versions are just higher clocked).

For $700 you can still do great.

There aren't any better CPU's worth their weight in salt on that platform. You can't use Intel and AMD on the same board. Also, the storage isn't what I'm referring to but the speed of the storage for the OS. A 275GB MX300 costs about $70 USD and makes a world of difference when using the PC.

ok, thats good to know that there just arent any availble upgrades, so ur suggesting i just build my own now, which id love to do, but would defiately need help with. id have an absolute max budget then of like 1700, and i apperciate the two youve suggested, but then i would want to have it planned and ready before cyber monday to try to get some deals, and i dont wanna rush and make a mistake xD the stuggle is real

also i then wonder about all kinds of stuff like 16gb ram is nice, but idk if i would benifit from 32, or if that would be overkill. i assume 64 would be overkill tho. and the wheather or not to do a single gpu, or to sli, and idk if i should get a gtx 1080, or maybe a pascal titan x? and idk if id be ok with a quad core hyper thread? or if a 6 core hyperthread would actually make a difference, etc etc

Mark it as solved by selecting the best answer, which would be one of @Energycore's suggested builds, and unfollowing the thread.
