Hey everyone,

I'm planning to build a little home server. It will be primary used as a NAS. However I want to use it as well as a local server for software development.

I thought about adding Thunderbolt 2 or 3 for direct file transfers. I don't know if it is worth the extra.  What RAID configuration would be necessary for Thunderbolt to be beneficial over USB 3.0?

As for the case, it should be quiet and have dust filters. Toolless drive mounting would be great as well.

Max. Budget: $1000

Thanks :)

If the plan is to run VM on the server, use a locked i5 or i7 instead of the i3.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
