To answer your question, it likely won't damage anything, but mixing and matching RAM doesn't always work properly.

 

Do you find you need more than 8 GB of RAM? If not, then no, you won't see any improvement. Unused RAM does not make a computer faster.

 

Also, 2 GB isn't very much. If you need more than 8 GB, chances are you need more than 10 GB. You're better off matching it with another 8 GB stick, preferably one that's identical.
