Voltage higher than set when overclocking.

Asus maximum hero viii, 6700k hardware.. now the problem is that when ever we set voltage on the CPU say 4.6ghz @1.35v it never actual stays at 1.35v and often hits over 1.4v and to get 1.35v it must be set to 1.3v. I relise it not really going to dmg and is pretty normal from what Iv seen but friend is worried about it and curious about if can stop this?

OP, are you using AI Suite 3? If so, stop it. It doesn't work. OC manually from BIOS.

well if my math from elementary school is correct, decimals get rounded up if the number is at least 5. So 1.35 would be rounded up to 1.4

No not using Ai suite. Overclocking via bios.

 

And no i really dont think hwmonitor etc is going to round up a whole .5v unless you know the motherboard manualy does it which its most likly not "rounding" and is some other form of overvolting wizardry.

Its the load line calibration on the board overshooting.  The best way to fix these things are to disable all power saving and speed step and run fixed voltage all the time.

It is but it doesn't quite apply here.  You can't round out significant decimals. It's not the year ~2020 and a day isn't ~30 hours long and so on. The few hundredths of a Volt make an actual and crucial difference in CPU operation. You simply cannot ever round it to a single decimal.

The board is set to high performance, voltage is manual fixed mode and epu power savings speed step etc all disabled.

OK so it is just the LLC overshooting a little.  Not much you can do.  Also you have to remember this is software so it maybe be reading a bit off. I would just set it to the lowest voltage that works and go with that

Load line is set to auto. Is it safe to disable this or set it to 10 which I assume is the lowest? What will it effect apart from voltage if anything else. I have it set to highest (1) on my b150m and voltage never overshoots on there but this isn't my own hardware so wanting to be alil cautious.

I have LLC settings I can change if  its safe too.

Yes change it to the various different settings and see what happens and what works best.

Changing this between 1/10 makes no difference. @1.35v 4.6ghz under aida64 test it hits 1.42v and around 90c this seem to hot for 1.35v and 360mm aio. And the Problem with running 1.3v is at idle it dips slightly .1ish v which may cause idle instability at 4.6ghz as under load 1.275v was unstable but 1.3v is  ;s any more suggestions? Faulty board/CPU maybe?

Its running 1902 with the 2202 being latest with a CPU uCode update what ever that is. I guess that's the next thing to try will let you know how it goes anyway..
