I'm planning a new PC, and looking for a GPU.

It MUST have a backplate (I am willing to use 3rd party backplates, but they must be factored into cost).

Here is the build I have so far (note the custom backplate), I was hoping for a better cost/performance ratio card, but I still want it to look good. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/HbQHRG

For gaming at 1440p, 90 Hz.

I have no hard price limit, but I do want it to be as low as possible. I was looking for a 1070, or equivalent. (is XFire RX 480s viable?)

Thanks

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

If i were to go with the turbo I would just get a card from EVGA, as their ACX 3.0 cooler looks similar, is priced similarly, and has just as much white as the turbo, ie - none.

Is it worth an extra $40-$50 from an EVGA card to the dual with that custom backplate? the dual itself is a good card at a good price, it is just the lack of backp;ate that turns me off.

the backplate itself is less than $20, but it is shipping from europe

It's 1070 and up so no 480. But you already have that Asus GPU planned? Could also consider a EVGA with ACX 3.0 coolers. They have  a backplate and the card itself also has black/white theme. So it's more black then white, but still.

I have an EVGA 970 right now, and I completely agree

Jup, there are more screens with less common Hz like 75 or 100.

I had had that thought, and at that point I'd probably get a white cable for my GPU, but at that point, it is the same price as the ASUS Dual with a custom backplate. (CableMod sells a $50 kit for my PSU that includes 24 pin, 8 pin CPU and 2 8 pin VGA)

At that point though, which is more worth it?

Despite EVGA's ACX 3.0 forgotten thermal pads hickup they are very good coolers this gen. Relative low on soundlvl's while still getting good results for cooling and temps that affect GPU boost nicely. So for comparing the cards, the ACX 3.0 cooler from EVGA is the better cooler.

For the looks, can't really make that choice and also depends on final looks. I personally think a bit broken white/black theme can look awesome vs a very white theme.

If you take the EVGA card, would wait with the cablemod and first see how it looks with standard black cables. But thats me.

I would recommend the Asus dual-gtx1070 since it sports a sexy white/black theme and it's a 1070, so it's perfect for 1440p gaming, but it can be a little noisy and it does not feature a backlate. It's worth having a look, though.

ColdZero makes a backplate for it.

Oooooooo and a very sexy one at that. Those look really awesome

unfortunetly, the shipping to the US costs as much as the backplate itself, and it ends up being almost $60 US after taxes and currency conversion fines

but when you consider tat I'd pay almost that much for the cable set, I think it it worth it
