So I have been running a Aquatuning Aquastream XT USB Ultra for oh I dont know... 6 years ish? and I have seen A LOT of watercooled computers but all seem to run some variant of the D5... is there a reason why the Aquastream is not used by others? I mean, mine works great silent and effective and the buildt in aquabus is fantastic so i just don't see why it's "unpopular"... not naging about it.. just curious..

It's not a bad unit by any means but for the pressure and flow characteristics, the D5 does surpass it on high settings. Only thing probably would be dimensionally it would be almost the size of two D5 units which my guess is probably why it's not used more commonly. That and the cost as it's usually quite a bit more than the standard D5 unit.

The aquastream is quite unpopular outside Germany. I assume that is also a historical thing. I can only speak for Germany but here the Eheim 1046 was the standard pump that almost everyone had. The aquastream is based on this pump and was the first popular 12V pump in Germany. It exists since more than 13 years now so it was there when PC watercooling has grown up so almost every German watercooling guy knows this pump and many had it or still have (mine is older than 10 years for sure).

I don't know which pumps were popular in other countries at this time but I assume it worked the same way. There was just that one pump that did the job, so why look somewhere else... With further popularity of PC watercooling, more companies entering the markert and discussion forums making everything more international; the D5 pump became that standard thing for many customers over the last years. Many also wanted more and more flow (even though its does not really help), so I think that also helped a lot to make it as popular as it is.

well, Im happy with mine so I'll stick to that... have been thinking of adding a second loop to the black mamba but I have to wait for the Enthoo Elite to be available first:) might get a aquabus fan controller first tho to get more controll over my other fans, I'we got my three radiator fans connected to the Aquastreams fan controller but I'm a bit worried they will be pulling more than 5W...
