So my brother got a new pc and it's not really working. A couple of minutes after booting in windows the PC will crash, it doesn't matter if there is a 3D application running or just idling. This isn't the case with the GPU removed running with the integrated Gpu. The GPU is also artifacting all over the place when it is moved slightly in the pcie slot (it's a second hand (:/)  290x BTW). We tried undeclocking the card while running the same voltage but nothing happened, it'll still crash after a couple minutes but before that you can play games just fine. Does anyone have a clue what could be going on in the GPU and how to fix that.

Run everyhting stock so no OC's anywhere. I asume all is properly connected. Are drivers up to date? Try uninstalling all graphics driver with DDU and do a fresh installl.  But could be faulty GPU.

Artifacting when you move it in the slot (as in an up/down wiggle, not in/out)? Sounds like the contacts may be dirty. Got a can of compressed air you can use to blow out the slot, and some 99% rubbing alcohol + a Q-tip to clean the card's contacts?

@Gonio I reinstalled the drivers twice, then reinstalled windows. PCI power cables are connected. No Oc anywhere; memory is at stock, cpu at stock, bclk at stock and Gpu all at stock.

It's artifacting when the card is moves side to side in the pcie slot. I will clean connector and plug shortly.

Nothing happened, I even tested with another psu... :( looks like we've got a dead gpu

Sad to hear bro. Last thing you could try is another PC to see if you have same results. Hope you havn't paid to much for it...

If you want a new replacement suggest you look at 1060 6GB or 480 8GB. EVGA with ACX 3.0 coolers are great (the missing thermal pads problem only happen on 1070 and 1080 cards + you can inform them for free ones), but MSI gaming and Asus Strix are also good aftermarket coolers.

I did try that but nothing changed. I can't try my 1060 atm because I don't have my pc here (the r9 290x if my brother's).

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'd rather go with the rx 480 since I'm not a big fan of my 1060.

How come? The 480X is similar range for performance, but mostly a bit below. If it is performance you are missing a higher tier card might be needed...

When does that happen? If it is during gaming with like GTA V BF1 multiplayer  it could easily be a result of a CPU bottleneck.

Just mention it, because you might get wrong expectations then if you would swap cards.
