Stress test tools

I have recently build a PC and i would like to "stress test" it does the community have any suggestions of what i should run to stress and test my system? I want to test the cooling of the system as well as performance at factory settings before looking into overclocking my system.

If you have an intel die at the heart of your system use intel XTU (Extreme Tuning utility).  If your running amd, and / or want to seriously test the shit out of your hardware get prime 95 or Aida stress test (Be careful with some of these tests, they put your chip under intense heat that you need advance coolers for). For graphics something like Valley Benchmark will do quite nicely. To check temperatures download MSI Afterburner.

Does the valley actually stress test the GPU isn't it just a short benchmark?

Usually you 'stress test' to make sure your GPU / CPU is stable under a certain overclock, if you sit and let valley benchmark do its thing and endlessly loop then yes, it will 'stress test' your GPU and make sure your overclocks are stable. And yeah, as an added bonus Valley can be used for  benchmarking.
