Anniversary update messing up my default programs

As what the title says...

Trying to restore them to my preferences leaves me with no changes. For example changing the default movies program to VLC within the default programs menu does nothing and is still the annoying blue logo

Yea, this is the panel to use. The other is just for general types that Windows recognizes, and you need the software to support it. The panel above actually set the file associates for the types that the software is claiming to support, and actually do the change in the registry per file type.

Seen this happen on several computers at home and at work with the anniversary update. I honestly think it is just a bug and you have to assign the default program.

Sometimes re installing the program helps fix the problem
