hows this pc?

helijoe123

Yes. You paired a K cpu with a h motherboard

Go with skylake 6700k and a z170 mobo

that gpu is weak and not suitable for gaming but if you dont have more money then fine.

rx 480 or i3 6100

are you buying these parts new or used? Because if you want to overclock that cpu, you don't have a motherboard capable of overclocking.

I don't see what's wrong with pairing a 4790K on an H motherboard if the price to performance is actually better than the locked processor, as it does still come with a cooler. Even if it does have features that aren't being taken advantage of, you are still getting better value.

Multi-core performance (at base speed):

i7-4790K - £299 / 4.0 GHz = £74.75 per gigahertz

i7-4790 - £272.34 / 3.6 GHz = £77.59 per gigahertz

Single-core performance (with turbo boost):

i7-4790K - £299 / 4.4 GHz = £67.95 per gigahertz

i7-4790 - £272.34 / 4.0 GHz = £68.08 per gigahertz

These are prices from PCPartPicker, by the way.

That said, the OP can go Skylake. Also, budget Z87/Z97/Z170 boards aren't that much more expensive if one is willing to test the waters of overclocking and get even more value.

You shouldn't have to compromise your graphics performance so drastically just to get an i7, as it won't do you any good. I managed to fit an i5-6500 into this build which should get you going for a bit.

I also managed to fit an RX 470 into this build as well. It's a blower-style card and only has 4 GB of VRAM, though, but it's vastly superior to the GTX 750. If you're willing to stretch your budget and get a card with better cooling or more VRAM, do so.

Do you actually plan on using that optical drive? If not, delete it and get a slightly better RX 470.

I kept most of everything else the same, though. You are using 8 GB of DDR4 memory instead of DDR3, but it costs the same.

That game is 10 years old. Nearly everything should be able to handle it.

It is £13 more than your budget. But if you insist on staying in that range, you can drop the SSD.

From looking at online benchmarks, it doesn't benefit much, if at all from hyperthreading, so you aren't going to get even nearly as good of a value from getting an i7 over an i5. If you want a cheaper 4 GHz Intel processor, you should get an i5-6600K/Z170 or i5-4670K/Z97 board and overclock. There just isn't a reason to spend an extra £100 on an i7 that won't actually give much, if any improvements in performance.

I did and my opinion has not changed. If you're dead set on getting an i7, then get one, but I'm confident that an i5 will not hold anything back. You will end up having to get a cheaper GPU as a result, and I'm not sure this compromise is worth making.
