that said, windows server is quite simple in terms of how to check compatibility with software:

- windows server 2003 == windows XP

- windows server 2008 == windows vista

- windows server 2008 R2 == windows 7

- windows server 2012 == windows 8

- windows server 2012 R2 == windows 8.1

- windows server 2016 == windows 10

(that's all off the top of my head, if i did a derp, quote me and i'll fix it :P)

can bit torrent run on windows server 2012 r2

I'm asking because i have really used windows server except a small bit in my college class.

Windows Server R2 is not an Operating System. That being said, yes you can run a bit torrent client on Windows Server OSes.
