Hi
For a school business project we need to research a product idea and get a feeling for the market and potential customers.

Our idea ?
We are aiming to create an online platform for programmers of all kinds where they can share , search and store CODE SNIPPETS.
Next to the web platform we would also provide a client app with extensive team functionality and snippet synchronization functionality for your favorite IDE.
Our target audience?
YOU !

We'd like you to give us some feedback and see wether you are interested in our idea.
If you could fill in this short google form (4 questions only !) that would be much appreciated !
Here's the link ! Google form

Thanks for your feedback !

So Github? though small snips of functions (sort of like a library) could be quite useful.

We are aware of github's gist system but we aim to add more functionality through our web platform and client. Also : github isn't quite user-friendly when searching for specific code-snippets

Will you let us have private projects for free?

The web platform would have 99% of the functionality the client has , but there's just some things we can't do through a web interface. Private snippet repositories would be available for everyone for free but at a limited quantity. People would be able to go 'premium' for more private repositories and more team functionality through the client. But we want to deliver broad functionality on both sides of the project for free !

You're also going to need a larger development team, budget, and timeline. In short, it's simply not worth it.

"IDE integration!" sounds great on paper in some business top-down meeting, but the end-users (that is, us) don't really care. If we can copy code and paste it into something like pastebin that's good enough for us. Maybe if pastebin were easier to use like imgur then I'd use it over pastebin. But the last thing I want or need is another native client, another plugin, another SOMETHING that I have to download and run in the background so that I can what? Save a second or two? Nah, and I mean that's even if it works with my IDE of choice.

I already share code snippets in Slack. If you want to make it for "teams", then you're going to be competing against slackhipchat, and rocket.

half agree, you don't need ide integration a simple client to download data from your profile would be enough. That way you don't to support all the IDEs, just open an app and sync.

Imgur doesn't have a client and it's the most popular photo uploader in existence.

That's because all you have to do is go to their site and press ctrl-v. A native client isn't going to really improve how easy that is.

that is true. Though for coding it would be nice that changes on the site are reflected locally, open a program and all changes made are synced.

At that point it's worth investing in git.

Maybe so the one thing I don't like about git is the lack of private support without paying.
