PC Power-Button mod by 042

Hello LTT forums, This was a quick mod but I decided to share it with you guys in case someone wanted to do something similar. A bit of background of why I did this mod.  My PC case has been pretty much abused since I've gotten it. Trying to fit a d14 in my case & making it cool properly and other minor things has been a pain in the a**. All the front USBs & power/reset switch, etc were broken a long time ago so I took them out and threw them in the bin and every-time I start my PC i had to open up my case panel and push the button (My motherboard has an onboard power/reset & CMOS clear buttons on it) so I eventually took all the front panel sections off so I could stick my arm through it and turn it on.

Safety first! Always wear glasses when doing soldering in case solder flicks up at you and it could land in your eye. It happened to a friend of mine last year and the end result was quite nasty.

As you can see there is nothing on my top panel where the I/O's are meant to be.

 

This is what it looks like at the moment, I haven't glued it to the case so it's on an angle. Also you see a little light on the switch which I purposely didn't wire up because it is quite bright at night time and I didn't see the purpose of it being on.

Sort of. I dust it out with an air compressor every fortnight so that doesn't bother me much.
