Firstly, this isn't my computer, I wouldn't be caught dead using IE. It's my parents PC and I could never quite convince them to use Chrome. So the problem is that every time they open up IE instead of going to the homepage, it says, 'Your security setting level puts your computer at risk'. Then it recommends you change your settings back to default, which I've done many times. After 15 minutes or so the settings get automatically changed back to what they were. I normally wouldn't be too worried about my own security settings, but for my parents and little brother I feel that they are pretty important.

So far I have ran Tdsskiller, full scans of Avast and Malwarebytes, Combofix, reset IE settings, cleared IE temp files, and uninstalled any toolbars/add ons. However, the problem persists. Anyone have any suggestions? I've done everything I could think of.

Edit: Also they're running Windows 7, 64 bit, if that helps.

If you're comfortable with registry editing you can create a .reg file containing the lines below and merge it or add the keys manually. It would disable the security settings though :/

I had a similar issue and this was pretty much the only fix I could come up with.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Security]"DisableSecuritySettingsCheck"=dword:00000001"DisableFixSecuritySettings"=dword:00000001"DisableSecuritySettings"=dword:00000001

i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz | ASUS STRIX 970 | MSI Z77A-G43 | 16GB Corsair Vengenace 1600Mhz | 128GB/256GB Samsung 840 Pro | 2x 240GB Intel 335 Series | 1TB WD Black | Corsair 650TX | CM Storm Scout 2 Advanced (Ghost White) | Win 10 Pro

So this just disables the security settings entirely? I'm more worried about the settings being turned off (I have no idea if they even help at all tbh, though) than having the message show up all the time.

Yeah, it would disable IE's security settings entirely. If their browsing habits and computer knowledge would put the computer at risk for infection then I wouldn't say its worth the trade off.

Alright, I guess I'll just give one more shot on trying to get them to switch to Chrome. Thanks for the help.
