ECC Memory and Motherboards

Hi,

I was wondering, if I only had ECC Memory (DDR3) laying around in my house and didn't have normal DIMMs (DDR3) to use, could I use ECC Memory without taking advantage of the ECC feature?

 

p.s I'm not very edumacated when it comes to RAM (memory)

yes you should be able to do that.

Usually not unless the motherboard supports ECC memory. Almost always no. The only exception I have ever seen is youtuber "Tech City" once got some ECC dimms to boot on a non ECC motherboard. However that was ddr2, and even he admitted it probably should not have worked.

If the board (and/or CPU) do not support ECC, then you cannot use ECC RAM at all. The system won't boot.

The motherboard I'm gonna use is an ASRock 970 Pro3 (AM3+), and the CPU an AMD FX-6300
