Your specs and connection? You shouldn't go for extreme when streaming, with resolution and quality I mean. Just 720p30fps with bitrate being 2000-2700. If you have second monitor, using that for monitoring stream and chat will be benefit. Also if you have access to another platform (laptop, phone, tablet), using that to check quality of stream will help when doing first setup.

I have a laptop with an extra monitor. i7 6700hq with 16gb of ddr4 and. Gtx 960M.. my download and upload are both 100+mbps and usually my ping is under 4ms... I'm assuming my specs and connection are decent...

Yeah, you should be fine with 720p streaming. You can use ShadowPlay as capturing/encoding.

You might not. But the point is that 720p is enough for start. You need to bumb bitrate for higher resolution. With Twitch that is problematic since only partners have scaling options. In practice it means that your viewers need to match your upload with their download.
