Is there a way to find out if a game is CPU or GPU intensive?

Of course if you increase the "looks" of the game, your GPU would have to work harder, but what about CPU?

What type of games or game settings would effect the CPU more than the GPU?

Enable the MSI Afterburner OSD (on screen display) for the following

- CPU usage

- GPU usage

- Frame rate

Play the entire game and observe the GPU usage in relation with the CPU usage

Normal - GPU usage should be consistently above 90% while playing the game (disregard the loading screen). CPU usage will vary from 30 to 90% depending on the game and depending on your CPU

CPU bottleneck - GPU usage frequently drops below 90% while the CPU usage is ~99%

Usually, games only have certain areas which are CPU-intensive. Examples are

Rise of the Tomb Raider - Temple of Kitezh

The Witcher 3 - Novigrad City

Crysis 3 - Welcome to the Jungle

Thank you all for the replies!

When Playing World of Tanks at Medium-High settings, my FPS is at around 60+

CPU Usage Never goes above ~95%, but usually around 50-90%

my GPU on the other hand, fluctuates. It reaches 100%, but doesn't stay there.

These CPU and GPU activities continue to other games like Planetside 2, Warface, Robocraft and Overwatch.

(all reach past 60 FPS, except planetside)
