Hi

I have a Corsair Raptor HS40,

I've been having this problem the last few months where I can hear my motherboard processing and a constant white noise or "buzz".

I have on "listen to this device" for trouble shooting as I noticed it when recording a video.

I've tried many methods online to fix it and I haven't found a solution yet.

I've tried using Realtek Software and Corsair software and couldn't find an "enhancements" tab in properties of my microphone, apparently the enhancements come built in. One setting called ACG being disabled helped I would say having the problem. Changing another settings to "DVD Quality" helped also but allowed me to hear my motherboard again. CD Quality removes the motherboard sounds.

Giving up on software I thought i'd look into my hardware. Someone suggested opening up the case and tightening everything I could and double checking all my connections, so I did. Upon doing so I noticed when I touched the chassis in the tower or the power supply the noise ceased to exist. It went completely.

This lead to be doing so more research, although the loose screws and connection could've caused this, in my case it wasn't the problem. Someone said the case was earthing through me. Someone on Youtube suggested getting a male USB and attaching an earth wire to the back of it and plugging it into a plug. It seemed a bit risky attaching it right into the motherboard so with the knowledge of it stopping when I touched the chassis, I thought I'd earth the chassis (Frame).

Doing this lead me to using a lamp plug that is also on my desk plugged into the same extension cord as the computer. One end of the wire was tied into earth and the other end was the earth end. So i cut the rubber off the copper and was going to tie it around a part of the case that stopped the buzzing when I touched it.

To my surprise, just touching the naked bit of copper attached to the earth in the lamp also stopped the buzzing noise in my headset. It seemed as if my extension lead wasn't earthing. So I changed it to a high end one I had somewhere else in the house and it still did the same thing, touching the earth on the plug of the lamp stopped the buzzing in my computer. Both of which were in the same extension lead.

This lead me to thinking it was my socket, so I opened it up (Turning it off at the mains of course) and everything was good. I'm an Automation student and Electrical Workshop is part of my course and I've wired a lot of plugs in complicated circuit so I'm confident the plug was safely earthed.

Thinking it may be the entire house isn't earthing right, I dropped an extension lead out my window and tied the earth part of the plug to the earth bar the entire house uses. Pushed the earthed of the lamp (open end) into the earth part of the extension lead and it still did nothing.

So now, I've tried everything I could find online. I'm thinking there is too much power perhaps or something going on with electrodes flying around somewhere that my body is absorbing them.

Can anyone help? I'm desperate and nothing online has lead me to an answer. Many more people share my problem and I'd love to find a solution. The headset doesn't have the problem in my PS4 or another PC and I had a turtle beach headset and It did the same thing.

My Computer:
GPU: GeForce GTX 750 Ti
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.40ghz
Memory: 12.00 GB DDR3
Keyboard: Logitech G510s
Mouse: Razer Naga
Headset: Corsair Raptor HS 40

Thanks.

What PSU?

You know what... I don't know? It's one I carried through from my previous build, it's 500 watt and being honest it's certainly noisy. To the point if I tap the side of it it changes how noisy it is.

You think somethings up with it?

Well, if you have a spare lying around or one you can borrow from another PC it would be easier to swap it out than the mobo. Both can cause noise issues with audio.

CPU: AMD Sempron 2400+ / MOBO: Abit NF7-S2G / GPU: WinFast A180BT 64MB / RAM: Mushkin DDR333 256MBx2 / HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 120GB
