Same character, different fictional universe.

Quicksilver is a Marvel comic book character. The X-Men franchise, owned by Fox, uses some characters from the Marvel Comic books. The X-Men movies takes place in the X-Men Cinematic Universe.

Age of Ultron is made by Marvel Studios (Owned by Disney) - Marvel studios makes movies that take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Quicksilver is a character that is not exclusive to any studio (Meaning both Fox and Marvel Studios have the right to use this character).

Think of them as alternate parallel realities.

FYI, I prefer the Fox interpretation of Quicksilver, over the Age of Ultron version.

See my edit for more info :)

Basically, Marvel sold the license for "X-Men and X-Men related characters) to Fox ages ago (back in the 1990's) to make movies.

Marvel then started Marvel Studios years later, and used the unlicensed characters they had leftover (Mostly Avengers related characters).

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were part of a legal dispute between Marvel Studios and Fox. Fox claimed that they owned the rights because those characters are *SPOILER ALERT*

Spoiler

Magneto's children

and Mutants, which would make them part of the "X-Men and X-Men related characters".

Marvel disputed this, saying that the characters were more associated with the Avengers than with X-Men.

Eventually they came to agreement, both studios can use the characters, but cannot reference the other studios properties. So Quicksilver in X-Men cannot mention the Avengers, and Quicksilver in Age of Ultron cannot mention the X-Men or that they are mutants. ("Enhanced", I believe, is the term being used by Marvel)

Thanks for the info, I feel like the feeling of getting to know the characters will be limited in movies because of this.

Well, obviously, in the MCU (Avengers, etc).... yeah... we're not gonna get to know Quicksilver anymore

Spoiler

HE DEAD! DEE EEE AYE DEE!

However, I think that in the X-Men franchise, we're definitely going to explore that character more. We're gonna get some real in-depth stuff focusing around his parentage, and his sister too of course.

They will of course need to totally avoid the Avengers thing. They'll probably just make Quicksilver part of the X-Men instead. I mean, really, the X-Men are basically just Fox's Avengers already lol.

Which is why I rarely like movies anymore, limitations due to those kind of stuff.
