HP Omen storage help

So I am a complete noob at all things electronics. I have never owned a computer with the capacity to play anything other than solitare on, but I have recently gotten the HP Omen 15" 2016 model. I have however noticed that it is lacking in memory with only the 256gb m.2 ssd drive, that was included in the package I bought. There is a 2.5" sata expansion slot in the case, but since I am new to all this I would like to ask the pros. Can I put an SSD into a 2.5" sata slot? I would rather not have an actual HDD since I bike around with the laptop, and it often gets some jolts, even while in use.

Absolutely! The m.2 drive will still be faster (assuming its a PCIe-based m.2 drive and not SATA), but throwing a dedicated SSD into the 2.5" SATA bay is still a great option for additional storage running at speeds faster than a regular hard drive. And if you are biking around a lot, it'll be much more durable in that regard.

 

Not sure what country you're in, but I'd recommend one of Crucial's MX200 or MX300 series SSD's since they provide good speeds and reliability.

Samsung SSD's are also a good choice in my books.
