New toy! (Elear Impression)

Spoiler

First off I’m not an audiophile and really bad at describing sound, but just want to give some quick impressions:

Build: Excellent build quality, probably among the best I’ve used and feels very durable unlike the th900 with the silly weak hinges (had one broke on me and had to rma before). The cable is hilariously long though, there’s probably enough for 2 headphones. Feels a bit heavy and tight, but I can get used to it.

Silly cable:

Mid: To me the Elear aren’t recessed at all, or at least not as bad as the th900.  I usually listen to anime op/ed/ost and kpop/jpop which are mostly female vocals and have a problem finding a comfortable listening volume on the th900 without the bass drowning out the mids. Overall, nothing stands out, and I’d still prefer my A12 when it comes to vocal.

Treble: First thing I noticed is I can listen to the Elear a lot louder than the th900 for longer period without getting fatigued from the treble. But it lacks the energy of the th900 and sounds a bit dark.

Bass: Th900 remains the undisputed champ, with better extension and sheer volume.

Soundstage/leakage: Elear have a disappointingly small soundstage given the design. It’s slightly larger than the th900, but not by much. Then again the th900 is “closed” on paper, when it’s really semi-closed. Not much leakage, I’m very surprised since I expected to be wearing speakers on my head, but this is nowhere near as bad as some open headphones I’ve owned like he400.
