NO BOOTABLE DEVICE!

Go to solution Solved by zMeul,

it's probably because you have Fast Boot enabled it will ignore the peripherals

put the HDD back in, go into BIOS, change the boot order to USB 1st, take the HDD out , put the SSD in and power it

don't forget the USB thumb drive with the Windows install

Ok, I've just got an SSD and I've put it in the main SATA port in my laptop and moved my old HDD into a caddy in the DVD drive. So, I wanted to make my SSD the boot drive thus I downloaded the Windows Media Creation Tool and waited a few hours for it to download into my USB drive. The name of my USB drive has changed automatically to ESD-USB (D:) and after I ejected it and shut down my laptop, I removed the HDD out of the DVD drive slot and left my SSD in the main SATA port inside my laptop. After that, I plugged my USB drive back in and turned on my laptop and this message popped up (below). I've tried pressing F2 to access my BIOS but nothing happened. So, I forced shut down by pressing F12 + Power button. Could anyone help me with this issue?

Ok, I've ran into a problem. Which option do I choose? I've got 2 options; "Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, settings and applications" and "Custom: Install Windows Only". When I select "Custom: Install Windows Only" I get an error message "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files" when I chose my SSD. Which option do I choose? First or second?

Ok, I've ran into a problem. After I installed Windows onto my SSD, I shut it down and put my HDD back in by sliding in the caddy. Now when I boot up, it takes only like, 5 seconds! The problem is, Windows doesn't see my HDD even in Disk Management. How do I fix this?

if you put the original DVD in, does it show up in Device Manager?

ps: install all the drivers and Windows updates

What do you mean 'original DVD'? And the Windows updates are currently hogging my 1 Mbps internet speed.

you're putting the HDD with a mounting bracket into the DVD unit slot, replacing the DVD unit, right?!

that's what I understood from your original post

Ah yes, that is true. But how will that make any difference? Is it safe to just pull out my HDD?

to test if there is an issue with that port or is there a different issue

if the DVD unit works, the the issue might be something else

Ok, I'm back and there are no problems with the DVD drive. Wow, I can't believe the speeds of an SSD! Boot takes only up to 10 seconds!

then there must be an issue with the HDD or the mounting mechanism - do the SATA connectors 'meet up" perfectly?

I have no thoughts then ........

it could be that the BIOS on the laptop is finicky and won't accept but optical devices on that port

in that case you might wanna buy a USB3 2.5" external HDD enclosure - I do hope the laptop has USB3 ports

I'm not willing to spend anymore. I will try and find a solution to this. I'll wait till the updates have finished downloading. Btw, does screen brightness adjustment have to be downloaded in Windows Update because right now I can't adjust my brightness and its kinda killing my eyes.

that should come with the software from the laptop manufacturer, might come with Windows Update, might not

you need to check their software too

eBay doesn't ship to my country. Even if it does, I bet the shipping is gonna be more than the product itself. There's a reason why I put my Location under my profile.
