Microphone Gain Automatically Increasing

I have a blue yeti microphone. In windows, I set my gain to 50. But here's my problem, windows automatically turns up this gain to 100, making the microphone peak like crazy and have a ton of static. What I've seen is to uncheck the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" checkbox, under the advanced tab. As you can see by my attached screenshots, I have done this. The gain still automatically goes up. Is there something else that I am missing that is making my gain automatically go up?

Hi TFMRealm,

Sounds obvious but, first check if the deviceinformations are correct and the drivers are installed. You can check this under "General".

When does the gainincrease occur? can you watch the slider going up, right after hitting apply?

Have you made any software or Hardware changes the last few days?

Wich applications do you use with the Yeti? Audiorecording? Communication?

I hope we´ll find a solution.

- If in doubt,        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The drivers are up to date.

The Gain Increase occurs seemingly at random. I can, see the slider going up, while touching nothing on the computer, however.

No hardware or software changes.

I use OBS, Discord, Skype (usually open, but I rarely use it), Audacity.

I hope we find a solution as well, but since the increase happens very randomly, it will be hard to tell if something will work right away.

Have you unchecked "  Automaticly adjust Microphone settings " in the microphone settings  in skype?

because even if you uncheck the "allow applications to ..." option, Skype will force changes on the Windows gain.

Furthermore you should check if there are similar options in Discord and OBS.

Another approach is to deactivate all other recording devices. Sometimes this leads to fails on USB Audio devices.

I have just tried to uncheck the "automatically adjust Microphone Setings" in skype. Discord also had the same toggle. OBS has a manual slider. There is no automatic option.

I tried some things in Discord and Skype to figure out how they adjust the volume gain.

It seems, that discord handles the gain internally based on the volume provided by the OS.

But Skype (Desktop) forces Windows to change it´s gain. If you slide up and down on the gain in Skype and have the Windows mic gain window open you can see the changes.

You should try to manual adjust the gain with your hardware knob on the yeti and in skype/ windows. Than you can try to set the gain in Discord (maybe even automaticly).

I figured that they would both be independent, but I guess that makes sense. Skype is weird anyways.
